Arnold André GmbH & Co KG – a large German cigar factory that produces Handelsgold little cigars – is based in Bünde and was founded in 1817 (then in Osnabrück). There is no major manufacturer of cigars in Germany; Arnold André is in second place for cigarillos. With various brands, the cigar factory achieved its national and then international breakthrough. The Handelsgold little cigars brand that played a very important role in this regard is the first cigar brand that was distributed throughout the Federal Republic of Germany.
For this reason, Handelsgold little cigars stand for the German cigar tradition like no other brand from the cigar industry and is still considered an icon from the time of the economic miracle – some even call the brand in one go with the VW Beetle to emphasize its importance. The reason for this great success in the post-war period was, among other things, the lifting of the machine ban in the cigar industry, which was pronounced in 1933, which enabled Arnold André to switch the cigar production to machine production. With Ludwig Erhard, the brand quickly found a prominent supporter from politics: the second German Chancellor called the corresponding cigars his favorite brand. Handelsgold offers various cigars and also cigarillos, all of which stand for uncompromising quality. This quality is thanks to the continued success of the brand over several decades.
It was only in the 1970s and 1980s – at a time when the consumption of cigars was labeled as old-fashioned and harmful to health – that the cigar factory decided not to concentrate solely on one brand, but with more additional brands to be more offensive Strategy. Of course, that did not mean the end of trading gold, on the contrary: the traditional brand was still preserved; thanks to a more diverse range, however, it was possible to address different groups of buyers.
